Banak is allowed into the US, since it is cooked (boiled) and cannot be replanted. I have taken it through customs many times and did not have any issues after it is inspected.
But I am still wondering what is the Iranian name for this seed?
Or is anyone knows the english or scientific name?

I'm pretty sure it has something bad but i still can't figure out what it is ( could be bacteria living in this moist env. or the water .. if its really water :P ) ... i know it is addictive coz once my wife starts cracking she doesn't stop till her lips become white and i use force to release the bag from her hand to save her life, Banak has a high content of salt which could cause pain in the feet for some people... i guess the only way to know is to take it to any airport in US and tell them some guy dropped this bag on me and ran away they will analyze it and we will know the English name + the content :)

I have a question about banak that's been haunting me!! OMG thank you for this post, been dying to know if banak is bad for you? as in healthy (lotsa protein) or fattening? I'm just being paranoid of the idea of banak being similar to peanuts or pistachios or any other kinda nuts, I'm on this strict diet, but I LOVE banak, I let my mom send me a load of banak bags from Kuwait and whenever I feel like munching on something I grab a bag and man!! it's like crack, I can't keep my hands off of it. PLEASE, ANY1 has any idea?
